How Can I Simply Lose Weight?

Dear Justine: I want to know what I can do to simply lose weight. I have gone through every diet and exercise program and seems like nothing is working. I do have hypothyroidism and a metabolic problem which I am not blaming…but if anything I will lose a few pounds or just stay the same. Thanks for any feedback.

Thank you for your question! I would be happy to help If you have done everything in the world to lose weight, then I know exactly where you are coming from. I did the exact same thing for years and years to lose the 45 pounds I gained in college, and it seemed that nothing worked long-term! The key I found to keeping sustainable results is to set BABY goals. Baby goals, baby steps. If you look at your overall weight-loss goal, it could seem overwhelming. There’s no need to feel overwhelmed, so let’s set a baby goal right now!

What is something you can do that is easy to fit into your lifestyle for the next week? Is it eating breakfast if you don’t already? Is it walking for 20 minutes at lunch? Is it bringing a snack to work for that 3:00 hunger pang? It is carrying a bottle of water around with you? Take a few moments and jot down a few ideas of baby goals that you KNOW you can do. Then post the baby goal that you decide on up on your mirror or your refrigerator for the next week and honor yourself by sticking to that goal. Every time you look at the mirror or every time you look at the fridge, you’ll be reminded of your goal.

Once you feel like that baby goal has become an easier part of your lifestyle, which may take a week or two, then THAT is when you set your next baby goals. No sooner! You have to feel “ready” to add on. Then slowly but surely, the baby goals build on top of each other into huge, giant, adult steps! Baby steps, my dear!
